Writing is Easy; The Way Writing Affect your Life

Writing, one of the obligate skills for language learners, becomes the most interesting lecture among the lectures. Immemorially, writing has been known as the wondrous skills that should be mastered by language learners. Not only easy to be mastered, writing contributes a good implication to the learner’s life. Writing is the process of critical thinking—it shapes the way of thinking. There are at least five things that contribute positively to the language learner’s life: writing as the best language trainer, the path to be success and famous, a silent doctor of “painful”, the field of expression, and the best listener.

Writing is easy; it is the best “language trainer”. The only things that language learners need are pen, paper and a prepared mind. As a language trainer, writing shapes the learners style of writing, determines the diction, and the product of writing. How come? Because when the learners are starting to write with the prepared mind, learners might find many mistakes, at first, and getting eager and eager to revise it to reach the better result of writing product. The drilling process by writing is going to help trained the learners to have a better English. At first, it’s probably only shaping the word choice, but later, writing help the learners to have a good grammar. Those are the ways writing trained the learners.

Writing is easy: it is the path to be success and famous. For instance, one of the most successful and famous author in Indonesia is Andrea Hirata. He is the author of Laskar Pelangi which sold around 600.000 copy exemplar, and the he gets the profit around 3.6 billion rupiahs. Indonesia has numbers of successful and famous author who are success from their ability to write. That’s why the second reason; writing is easy to affect someone’s life, because Indonesian author itself already proofed how writing drives them to the successful and famous gate.

Writing is easy; it’s the silent doctor of painful. For the third reason, it’s probably commonly experiences to the learners, especially in the teenage phase. Having a diary is the easiest way to get this point. A silent doctor for ‘painful’ here means, writing can help learners away from their ‘painful’ by write down every bad feeling they have. Usually, learners who have problems in their mind need ‘someone’ who is able listen their yarn about the problem. After telling the story to the other learners, the one who has problems may feel relief. However, it’s not always easy to find someone who wants to be the ‘doctor’, or someone who wants to listen the problem. So, one of the best doctor of painful is writing. No need learners to listen, no need advice, but it reliefs someone in troubled mind.

Writing is easy; it’s the field of expression. It is still related to the third point; to write every bad feeling in a book with lots of expression, whatever it is, it’s your right. Some learners are likely quite poetic to express their feeling, and then try to make poem every time. Another learners probably like a scientific setting off writing and then write several product of scientific journal. Whatever it is, it’s your right to write the expression in writing, but still consider the other’s human right—don’t bothered another human right. In short, that is the fourth reason why writing is easy.
Last but not the least; writing is easy; it is the best listener. As mentioned above, what learners need to write something are pen, paper, and a prepared mind, the rests are free. When learners got problems and don’t have anyone to tell, paper might be a very good listener. It’s listened without complaining, protest, or sacrilege. That’s why it’s called the best listener.

For sum up, there are five points the way writing affects someone’s life; the best language trainer, the path to be success and famous, a silent doctor of “painful”, the field of expression, and the best listener. These five points are the summary of several benefits of writing. Please feel these five things work by starting to write. At least write something.

Mastering English through Writing

General Statement : Progress in Mastering English
Thesis Statement : The writer experience in learning English through writing from elementary, high school. until college level.

Mastering English through Writing
Every student has different and unique experiences in learning English. Each type of learning is one of the factors that can affect the learning process of the students. There are students who can learn only by listening to the lecturer, there are students who need to listen while seeing and doing the practice, and some others need to write what they have learned to construct the knowledge. Therefore, the writer who have experienced in learning English through writing, is going to discuss about the experience of learning English from elementary school, junior and senior high school, until in the college level.

The very first writer’s experience in learning English was in elementary school. At that time, the writer was in the 6th grade when the writer found an English book on the shelf of school library. English was so ‘strange’ and ‘new’ among the students in SDN 10 Sidodadi; the place where the writer studied. No one shows their interest on it. However, that was the way the writer started the experiences to learn English. Through that book and one other dictionary, writer liked to learn English. The writer started by writing every single new word and made sentences.  Through this way, the writer really learned English confidently and independently.

Come to the next level of education, junior and senior high school. English was not something strange anymore. Since English is one of the obligate lesson in school. In this level, writer learned English by making a diary book called “Primbon Book”. It’s not primarily a diary book, but a collection of English lesson. For instance, writer was learned about sentence perfect tense, then, the writer wrote every single thing related to this topic, completed with the example. This primbon book which was proposed by the writer’s English teacher was so helpful.

The next level is college level, when the writer learned grammar properly. The lessons ‘sentence structure’ and ‘writing’ was very helpful in the first semester that the writer had been passed. Sentence structure and writing became two perfect combinations. While structure class taught the writer to be ‘in the path’ with grammar rules, writing class was the place to practice. Writer learned a higher level of English through writing in the college level, better than the previous in the high school.

In short, the writer had been passed 3 general steps of learning English through writing. These three level of learning; elementary school, high school, and college level, taught the writer to have better English and the proper use of English. Whatever the way of learning. Confident and persistent are needed to be successful in learning English. Mastering English through writing is one of necessary way to do.

Reasons for College Students who live in an Apartment

College students probably pass a bit challenging situation dealing with their transition phase; from senior high to college students. One of the confusion decisions they have to make is living accommodation. Living in a house which a bit far from campus, in a dorm, in an apartment become some of the considerations which need to be weighed its pros and corns. The pros side feels the advantages and takes it as the reasons to live in an apartment; safety privacy, cheaper cost, fewer restrictions, and a peaceful surrounding.
Safety privacy could be placed in the first position of the reasons to choose living accommodation for college students. Living in an apartment, whereas students have their own authority to live a room all alone, truly match the need of having safety privacy. Comparing to living accommodation in a dorm, students have to share their rooms with two or three students, which likely disturb their privacy. In an apartment, students can live peacefully without anyone watching over their shoulder; as long as they don’t make illegal activity and pay the rent, no one will complain.
Besides, colleges students opt to live in an apartment are making a good decision for the second reason; cheaper cost. A bit confusion maybe, but its real! Here is a short comparison, for them who live in a dormitory, they have to pay an amount of money for all associated with living there; food, utilities, laundry, electricity, etc. While in an apartment students need to pay by themselves. However, students can save much more money while living in an apartment, because they can control their own daily need.
Fewer restrictions become the next reason why college students likely choose apartment to live during their college life. No one will interrogate about who visit and when he/she visit, for example. In a dorm, contrary, there must lots of strict restrictions which are very bothering. For instance, there will be a rule for not inviting friends without permission from resident assistants. That’s why, it is logic to choose apartment to live in, due to the restriction.
For students, surrounding is very important to be considered. Since students need a good situation to be concentrated, students require a peace and comfortable situation. In an apartment, this need is filled because the situation completely peace without any disturber. It’s the point that possibly stresses the reason of college student to live in an apartment; to have a good concentration with a peaceful surrounding.

In short, living in an apartment has at least four advantages. First, it is offered safety privacy for college students. Second, it has cheaper cost, which is affordable for students. Third, it has fewer restrictions. The last, it is surrounded with a peaceful situation. Above all, these three advantages are enough to be the considerations for students who confuse to choose where to live.

  • First, young people who live at home get spiritually, morally and financially support from parents.

Home-sweet-home. No bodies deny that home is the best place to live; there is no place like a home. No matter how small and old your home is, it always be the best place ever. However, there are several considerations to live at home. One of them is the age factor. It’s probably common for young people to live alone, apart from their parents. Though, numbers of young people still choose to live at home, with their parents. Research asserted around 3.3 million young people (in the age range of 20-34) lived with their parents in 2013, according to the Office for National Statistics. The data a bit surprising, but young people who live at home at least have these three reasons as its advantages: get spiritually, morally and financially support from parents, feel convenience, and get nutrition food every day.

Shaping Student's Personality through Experience-Taking

Poetry is not a turning loose of emotion, but an escape from emotion; it is not the expression of personality, but an escape from personality. But, of course, only those who have personality and emotions know what it means to want to escape from these thing—T.S Elliot. Immemorially, literature which defines literally as letter had been became a persuasive way to affect someone’s personality. Researched at Ohio State University showed that students who read fictional books involved their emotions, thoughts, beliefs, and personal responses within the characters in the books as their own feeling. People subconsciously affected by a particular character in a literary works that they read in a way dubbed “Experience-taking.” Realize that the phenomenon potentially beneficial and applicable to shape students personality; this paper which referenced from the review of Journal Personality and Social Psychology, will discuss briefly about experience-taking and the hypothesis of shaping students personality through experience-taking.

“Experience-taking” a new term created by Geoff Kaufman and his assistant Lisa Libby, defines as someone’s accessibility to adopt their thought, emotions, behaviors, and personal responses to match some particular characters in the fictional books they read. The affective affinities of the fictional books are potentially elicited compassion of the readers; it is the way experience-taking worked within the readers. Researches assert the fact that experience-taking can only happen when readers are forgotten themselves and their concept of life when they try to get involved in the story. Besides that, the merger between the readers and the characters that occur in the story is better happen when the characters revealed as a first-person narrative. Additionally, in the experience-taking phenomenon, the more the readers involve, the better affection happens toward the reader’s behavior afterwards.

Since many studies discovered that fictional books can affect reader’s personality, it is possible to make a hypothesis about experience taking and the most possible hypothesis is shaping student’s personality through experience taking. Abundance of favorable goals is set toward student’s personality changing through experience-taking. For instance, after read fictional books that given, students having an imaginative process of thinking and subconsciously adopted the way the story characters think and feel, and then the students are able to be religious, discipline, hard-work, responsible, and its line. Need to be noted, the books that given should be contain those characteristics.

For sum up, even the experience-taking phenomenon is quite new in psychology field of study, but it is convincingly stoned for fictional books lover. Whereas, teachers and the other educational stakeholders need a really big effort on facing a vary problems within student’s personality, experience-taking is quite prone to be conducted. Indeed, experience-taking is needed to be applied for students, so the students’ subconsciously change their behavior and having the better personality.
